PUB 49001:
Document Summary

Although AT&T Compatibility Bulletin No. 149 (CB-149) is the most complete single source for the TBOS protocol specification, Bell System Technical Reference PUBs 49001 and 43804 describe the TBOS protocol as well.

PUB 49001 is officially titled "Requirements for Compatibility of Telecommunications Equipment with Bell System Surveillance and Control Systems". Section 3 describes the TBOS protocol from the point of view of an E2A APR (Alarm Processing Remote). Minor differences relating to actions upon error detection exist between PUBs 49001/43804 (which are virtually identical word-for-word) and CB-149. The latter also defines latch and unlatch serial commands, which are not discussed in either PUB.

The last version of PUB 49001 known to us is dated July, 1982. This PUB was obsoleted several years ago and is unavailable from BellCore.
